This year from September 6 to November 7 my sister Shenai and I will be participating in Great Strides, an annual fun run to raise much needed awareness and funds for people living with CF. We will be doing this to honour the memory of my beautiful, hilarious and kind best friend and husband, Matt who passed away in December of 2019 at just 24 years old. I was granted 6 amazing years with Matt and saw how much his CF affected his life. Matt’s absence has left a giant hole in our lives but we are forever changed by his strength and resilience he showed.

Whilst usually held in October in both NSW and Victoria with tracks 4, 8 or 21 km long, this year is done a little differently due to covid restrictions.

2021’s theme is the year of the Funky Strider so over the next 2 months we will be aiming to walk 24km, a kilometre for every amazing year that Matt was in this world. We will be doing this whilst wearing one green shoe and one purple shoe and decked out in Matt’s favourite colours in order to raise needed funds in support of people living with CF. And in honour of my husband Matt 💚💜

Matt’s favourite colours were always green and purple. The night I first met Matt he was wearing green shoes. I was constantly told stories by Matt and his family of when Matt was a kid and his phase of always leaving the house with one green shoe on and one purple and changing which side would be what each time.
At Matt’s celebration of life his Grandma wore 2 different coloured shoes to honour his memory and it made everyone in the family happy seeing it and remembering Matt’s sweet innocence and questionable fashion sense ❤️

You can join the fun in 2021 from September 6 through to November 7 as an individual or create your own team; corporate teams, schools, community groups and individuals are all invited to take part. Ask your colleagues, family members and friends to join in the fun.

My Updates

19 Sep 2021

Today marks 2 years since Matt and I read our vows we wrote to one another and said I do.
It was truly the happiest day of my life. I got 2 months and 14 days by Matt’s side as his wife and it will forever be my greatest honour. Days like today are hard and it makes it even more obvious the importance of using what we can to raise awareness and funds for CF. Matt deserved so many more years by his families side. Every person with CF deserves to live a long full life.
